Blue and beautiful
Posted by Violet Nesdoly on September 9, 2010
The moon shone blue and beautiful over the twenty or so fans of poetry who gathered Tuesday evening, September 7th, at the Clearbrook Library. Open mic readers entertained us for the first half of the evening.
After coffee and snacks, accomplished writer and poet Surjeet Kalsey read.

She opened with a piece about how, as a new Canadian and student at UBC, the desire to return home to India was as strong as the instinct to migrate is in a bird. She went on to easily fill half an hour with poems that pleased the ear while tugging at the heart. Her poem about sex selection (the custom of aborting unborn girls because the parents want boys) was especially poignant. Read samples of Surjeet’s poems on her blog.
Thanks to Surjeet, open mic readers and everyone who came to listen!
