Blue Moon rises on 2012

Posted by Violet Nesdoly on March 27, 2012

The MSA PPS 2012 season of readings got off to a rousing start with a Blue Moon Reading at the Clearbrook Library, Monday, March 26th.

Blue Moon readers - March 26, 2012

Nine readers easily filled the first hour of the evening as they prodded, nudged, entertained, and amused us with poems on subjects as wide-ranging as fighting a Mexican riptide to Maui vignettes, one hundred year commemorations (celebrating 100 years of the life of our own Thurlow Gowan coming up later this year, and thoughts on the upcoming 100-year celebration of the Komagata Maru), to the delights of the blueberry.

Refreshments and a time to mingle

Featured reader Anosh Irani

Our featured reader, Anosh Irani, followed the refreshment break. Though he is most noted for his novels and plays, his poems had us all ears—especially the prose poem dialogue between two fetuses, which proved to be, by turns, surprising, sad, funny, whimsical, dark, and mischievous.

Irani (who is nearing the end of the term as Writer in Residence at the University of the Fraser Valley) concluded his presentation by answering questions about the writing process in general and his work in particular. Thank you so much Anosh Irani!

(Find out more about this rising Canadian literary star from his website and this 2010 profile in the  Globe and Mail: Anosh Irani’s story: born from history.)
