Welcome to the Fraser Valley Poets Society

This is an invitation for all members and friends to attend an outdoor summer reading with the Fraser Valley Poets Society. We have chosen some dates to gather, close to the “orange” Kariton House, at Mill Lake. Bring your own chair and refreshment. Everyone is welcome to read and listen to our poetry. All Events are WEATHER PERMITTING. We look forward to seeing you.you.

We had successful outdoor readings in 2020 when we could not meet indoors and the weather co-operated thankfully.
Here’s hoping for the same this year.
During non-Covid times we meet regularly for open mic and featured reader poetry nights (Blue Moon Readings).
Time and location of poetry nights:
6:30 – 8:30 p.m.
Clearbrook Library (Community Room to the right of the main entrance)
32320 George Ferguson Way
Abbotsford, B.C.

Bring a poem or two to share or just come and listen.
You are welcome to read your own poetry or some of your favourite authors. Also, you can read in your first language and we will all celebrate the rhythms and rhymes of spoken verse.
Our events are free. You don’t have to be a FVPS member to read your work at an open mic. Just arrive, tell the person who is compiling the list of readers that you’d like to join in, and you’re on the program
Or come just to listen. Please feel free to bring a friend or neighbour.

I enjoyed the meeting last night. As a newcomer I try to follow the rules and regulations that are in place. I was very perturbed and frustrated to see that old members broke all the rules, by reading a bunch of their poems at once, limiting the time for others. I would recommend that the moderator follows the rules strictly, as it doesn’t give a good image as the way it is.

Thank you so much Max for attending our poetry evenings, your insights and comments are appreciated. We do work towards making our readings enjoyable and fair to everyone and no preference or bias was intended, however on the occasion of October 15, we neglected to keep official “by the clock” time, which does result in time – keeping guesswork. We do intend to keep more accurate time in the future. We appreciate you and others who carefully honoured the three minute rule with your own time keeping and we will make renewed efforts towards fairness and fun for all. Hi
I’m wondering if you have online events running, or a schedule for 2021?
Cheers!

Hi Margot, I will apologize for not seeing your request sooner… Due to the current times, we are only meeting outdoors in the community, at the park. The best I can do is ask you to sign up for the newsletter or follow us on FB, where we will give notice of events. Thank you for your interest in the Fraser Valley Poets Society… Terry Broadworth, Secretary/Treasurer FVPS
