Links to useful resources
We also are including a few links to poetry resources that are available on the web. Generally, these sites are content-rich and have something informative, educational or illuminating to share about poetry.
- League of Canadian Poets – The League of Canadian Poets is the professional organization for established and emerging Canadian poets. Founded in 1966 to nurture the advancement of poetry in Canada, and the promotion of the interests of poets, it now comprises some 700 members.
- Online poetry resources: An exhaustive list of poetry resources from “Adjectives that start with…” to “Writing.com.”
- Pandora’s Collective: Based in Vancouver, B.C. Pandora’s Collective keeps their finger on the pulse of all literary events in the Lower Mainland. They list local writer’s groups and writing workshops in addition to open mic events, poetry readings around Vancouver, and local book launch dates. This is a great site for listings in and around Vancouver.
- poets.org: The official website associated with the Academy of American Poets features serious and historically important American poets. A wealth of information is presented: for example, reading recommendations by America’s top poets, dozens of essays on writing by the world’s greatest poets, an excellent audio archive by the who’s who of 20th century poetry, and excellent resources for educators of poetry. Highly recommended.
- poetryfoundation.org: The website for the monthly Poetry Magazine, publishes work by serious, emerging poets as well as established writers. The website works hand-in-glove with the paper and every month features poems that appear in that month’s issue. In addition, they also review books and reprint essays on writing, interviews and archived articles that appeared in the magazine over the past 96 years (founded in 1912). Again well worth visiting.
