O Canada
O Canada: Celebrating 150 Years
The Fraser Valley Poets Society is proud to introduce its latest anthology. O Canada: Celebrating 150 Years is a collection that celebrates Canada and everyday life in Canada.
The book is divided into two main sections. “Celebrating Canada” contains poems about Canada (as we commemorate Canada’s 150th birthday). “Home and Away” has more poems about Canada and other subjects too.
Here you’ll find poetry from a variety of viewpoints and in a variety of styles. You’ll hear from those who have come to Canada as immigrants and those who have been born here. You’ll read lighthearted poems and serious ones. There are poems of protest and poems of celebration. You’ll find rhymes and free verse, ballads and lists, poems that are mysterious and poems that are easy to understand, short poems and long poems. There’s something for everyone in this 208-page anthology.
Eleven full colour pages of Canadian scenes and icons introduce the book’s sections and subsections. There are also over 75 interesting historical and cultural facts about Canada sprinkled throughout. A photo and short bio of each of the book’s 18 contributors completes the volume.
“As we celebrate Canada’s 150th anniversary, it is important to remember the great contributions that the arts have made to our national identity. The poems in this anthology offer brilliant insight into the Canadian experience—all different, and all beautiful.”
– Jati Sidhu, Member of Parliament Mission, Matsqui, Fraser Canyon.~*~*~*~
“I can’t think of a better way to celebrate Canada’s 150 years than by sharing what makes Canada and the Canadian experience unique.”
– Henry Braun, Mayor of Abbotsford
